DESCRIPTION

My client is a Cloud based Financial Software company who are looking for a passionate engineer to build and support our big-data machine-learning platform. This will be the second AWS engineer to join this team. You will be a highly-intelligent problem solver who is looking to apply AWS best practice to a completely AWS-based stack. A passion for new technologies and a drive to find simple and reliable ways to solve complex problems is key to succeed in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

You will sit within a five-person DevOps team, working alongside a team of server side developers. You will work alongside colleagues who are experts in CI/CD and SRE.
As a dedicated AWS Cloud Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Programmatically managing all AWS services including, o Big data management: AWS Batch, EMR, Lambda, SNS, SQS, Autoscaling, Load Balancing o Networking: VPC, VPN, Route 53 o Security: IAM, KMS, Cognito, Microsoft Active Directory o Systems Operations: Cloud Watch Logs, Cloud Watch Logs Agent, ELK, Cloudtrail, Config

• Scripting as required, for example, o Python for Lambda functions o YAML for Cloudformation o BASH

• Version management o Linux OS o Python packages o Conda

• Building machine images (AMIs) with Packer

• Ensure the security of the AWS account and architecture

• Monitor and evaluate AWS feature releases

• Liaise with AWS technical staff to resolve complex issues

• Monitor and understand AWS costs. Help manage and reduce these costs

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong Ansible, Chef or Puppet

• First class degree from a Russell Group University in Engineering, Computer science or Physics

• Minimum of three years’ experience in the workplace in a highly-technical start-up.

• Strong Linux and networking skills

• Passionate about learning AWS. Already an AWS certified (Solution Architect) or keen to become AWS certified with the requirement to pass the AWS Associate and Professional exams within the three-month probation period.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with developers and product managers to discuss and resolve issues.

SALARY & MISCELLANEOUS

• This role is paying a flexible salary depending on the experience of the applicant however the range is £30,000 at the bottom end to £150,000 at the top end per annum.

• The company does not offer a bonus option at this time however this could change in the future

• There are stock options included in the package
